SYNNE MARIA LUNDESGAARD

I dance, choreograph, draw, design costumes, make films and work as a creative producer. I approach my work through a feminist, queer lens.

I have an interdisciplinary approach to my work. I have a long-term goal of contributing in making the dance world more inclusive and safe for everyone who chooses to interact with it.

Originally from Norway, I did my Contemporary Dance BA(Hons) at London Contemporary Dance School. Since graduating I work as a dancer both in Norway and the UK.

I have produced and choreographed multiple works the last few years, establishing a practice which focuses on creating a joyful and caring space for the other creatives I involve.

When I create films, it is partly as a method of research leading up to the stage works I want to create. I also revel in the freedom of expression which film as a medium brings.

I think of costume as an extension of the choreography, and consider the design element of a dance piece to be central to it. I first started sewing in 2020, when I had time to spare during the pandemic.

Suggestions for a new alphabet for the new year -

YOU SHOULD KNOW BEFORE WATCHING! That «BEAT» has a live element to it. It is shown to a large crowd in a room which has space to move in. A dancer, at 2:50, falls down as if losing consciousness at the front of the room. The audience follows instructions to safely bring her back to life.
